Friday Five: 5 Books I Recommend

Lately it seems a lot of people are posting on social media for book recommendations. I haven’t done nearly as much reading as I would like to in 2015 – in fact, it’s probably the least I’ve read in years, but I still love to read and thought I’d share 5 book recommendations. It is hard for me to pick just 5, but check out my reading list for more titles I’ve read over the past few years.

The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon
In all honesty, I actually recommend anything by Jennifer McMahon. She is my favorite author and there is only one book of hers I didn’t care for much. Dismantled was the first I read of hers and I just finished up her latest release. If you liked Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, you will likely enjoy Jennifer McMahon books. They have bigger twists (I can never figure them out!), they are creepier, and they have gotten more supernatural within her last few.

Help for the Haunted by John Searles
What can I say? I like thrillers. I like books that keep me wanting to read to find out what happens next. I thought this book was so well written and it was just great. I am looking forward to reading more by Searles

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Chances are you’ve seen this on many reading lists. If you haven’t read it yet, go check it out. It may come off as being sci-fi since it has to do with cloning, but that is only the basis of the story and not the focus.

Me & Emma by Elizabeth Flock
I read this one a few years ago and read the sequel last year or so. It has a great twist ending that will make you question everything you just read and make you want to go back and reread the entire book. The sequel (though not as good) gives the answers to your questions.

Sister North: A Novel by Jim Kokoris
I randomly picked this one up a few years ago at the library after browsing the shelves. I loved the writing, the bit of mystery, and the overall storyline. The writing is very descriptive and I was really drawn into the small town. It was a quick read that is great for a rainy day, so a good one to check out this fall.

Happy reading!

  1. Good timing! I needed some new titles to read. I’d read every one of these on this list! I’m currently finishing this series that I’ve been reading since about February, but I keep getting bored and putting it down. It needs to be done. It’s a silly teenager series called The Mortal Instruments. I’ve been on the last book for months but keep putting it down. I really need to just finish it and move on!
