We’re Moving! (And Other Updates)

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Thanksgiving. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably have already seen the announcement – this upcoming weekend we’re moving back to Virginia. Richmond, to be exact. When I said in my Richmond Half Marathon recap that I was in town doing stuff for work, I was technically in town finding a place for us to live so we could get down there for me to start my new job.

Christmas 2016 will officially be in RVA!

We knew back in October that things were official and we’d be moving back Virginia, but wanted to wait until everything was set before making it “social media public.” Moving back to Virginia to be closer to family is something we have talked about on and off over the past few years, but the timing was never right. We started talking about it again this summer and finally made the decision to just go for it. I actually left my job in September and things happened really fast with finding a new job. Luckily, they didn’t need me to start until December, so that gave us extra time to get everything in order. That being said, the fall flew by and I can’t believe it’s already time to go!

We’ve been knocking some stuff off of our before-we-move bucket list. This included a trip up to Cleveland to see the A Christmas Story House. It’s my favorite Christmas movie and I could not move without getting that one in. I brought my Ralphie glasses and we had a fun time seeing the house, taking pictures, checking out the museum, and choosing from the gift shop. I picked up an LED Leg Lamp nightlight for our new home since we will be moving in just in time to decorate for Christmas. I’m also considering buying a ginormous pair of real glasses because I enjoyed how dorky I looked in them.

We’ve also eaten at a few of our favorite local restaurants and now we’re feeling pretty ready to go.

Last week, I got back into regular running after a brief break after the half marathon. I am all signed up to jump back into things and train with the Richmond Road Runner Club. As of right now, I’m planning to run the Shamrock Marathon. Training will actually start this week. I’ve decided to hold off on actually registering for the marathon until January. Between the move, starting a new job, and the holidays, I want to make sure I can fit in a solid first four weeks of base training before fully committing to the race. If the new year roles around I don’t feel I’m where I should be, then I can opt to do the half or register for a later race.

I’m also going to be switching my training plan to running 5 days a week instead of 6 for this go around. There are a few reasons for this. First off, the extra day off will allow some more flexibility with my schedule which will be good with the weather. Though Richmond doesn’t get much snow, there tends to be some icy days which could mean both not running outside and not driving to the gym to get on the treadmill. Secondly, while I don’t anticipate my new job to be quite as demanding as my past two roles, starting a new position is usually pretty exhausting. I thought it would be good to have an extra weekday to sleep in a bit. Finally, I am planning to maintain around the same weekly mileage as my previous training cycle, but up my intensity on some days including a bit longer of a run on Sunday. This will allow me to hit all my mileage within 5 days instead of 6.

As far as my blog relaunch goes, I’ve decided to push that back to the new year as well. Everything is ready to go, but I am anticipating things being a little quiet on here over the month of December as we get settled in and celebrate the holidays. Once January roles around, I’ll do the full launch and have many more updates. Most blogs tend to take a hiatus (intentional or not) this time of year, so it doesn’t make sense to launch a whole new site now.

It’s shaping up to be a very exciting 2017 and I am looking forward to sharing more updates. Until then, I will probably have one more post this week reflecting back on some things in Columbus (if I can find the time to jot it all down!) and then I’ll be lurking in the shadows reading others blogs as I can. I haven’t had much time to share comments, but I promise I am keeping up with all of you out there in blog world that I follow.

Stay warm!

I’m so excited for you that the move and new job are a reality! Congratulations!!! You know I’m jealous. 😉 Also awesome that you’ve finalized plans for your spring marathon. I would love to do Shamrock some day. Your change in training makes a lot of sense. 2017 IS going to be a great year for you! And you look adorable in those huge glasses! When we were recently in Cleveland we talked about going there but didn’t make it. Good luck getting ready for your move!
